It’s been about six months since Microsoft launched Vista and complaints over what doesn’t work with the program are beginning to outweigh the positive buzz that once included statements of improved desktop search, security and graphics.
Upgrade to XP
Vista now ships with most new computers, therefore it will become the world’s most dominant PC operating system at some point. However, many users for now are ditching Vista and upgrading to XP.
Many of these early complaints from a variety of users may threaten Microsoft’s supremacy in operating systems. Research shows that the various different types of Windows operate 93 percent of PC computers worldwide. Additionally, last fiscal year, Windows sales topped $44.3 billion, roughly one third of Microsoft’s overall revenue.
As Expected
Vista, however seems to be moving along as expected based on sales as many business and consumers switch over when replacing old hardware. Al Gillen, an IDC analyst states that Vista will be on the vast majority of PC’s in approximately five years, which is the same time it took XP to be on 84% of computers.
At this point, it’s too early to know how many people are using the operating system, Vista. It’s also hard to gauge its success against XP because the PC market has grown exponentially in the last six years.
Battle Ahead
A tremendous battle lies ahead with Windows Vista because Vista interacts differently with peripherals and programs than previous versions of Windows. Additionally, many companies have opted not to spend money and time updating older products.
Consumers are disappointed and continue to rant about a wide variety of issues with the OS. The most common problem concerns Microsoft’s user account control feature. This feature is designed to protect unknowing Web surfers from viruses and spyware that would install themselves on the hard drive. Users get frequent pop up windows warning of potential internet threats and often switch the control feature off. After it is switched off, they get pop ups warning the user that turning off the feature is dangerous. Annoyingly irritating!
In Summary
There’s no demanding reason to buy Vista especially considering the complaints. Therefore those of you with Vista, stop the frustration and upgrade to XP in order to enjoy your PC again!

BS
This is complete BS.
Anybody that "upgrades to XP" are dingalings that don't know how to upgrade their PC.
I have Vista 64bit running 8Gbs of ram and it is the best most stable OS I have ever ran and I have been building PCs since the 80s.
This is nothing but Macaholics attacking MS as usual.
nothing wrong with Vista after SP1, which was exactly the same scenario with XP, people hated XP the first few months after it came out.
wow
windows vista is a disaster and the sad thing is that people will be forced to buy it, the only reason whyim not mac is because their is no source engine for mac
Vista vs. Xp
We all have to remember about the Windows ME* disaster...I believe we can all agree that this is less of a problem than that was! However, I dislike Vista for the most part - although with a new kernel that is to be expected that it would have compatibility problems as well as old features being let go.
I run several Windows Server 2003 servers to host my website, and I love Microsoft for it's scalable packaging for servers. Sever 2008 looks a lot better (and is so far in the beta stages), so don't judge Microsoft for it's home PC market. Also - Vista was originally going to use Longhorn code (which it did for the alpha stages), but then they figured that the time release was too eminent to release it with all the features they had wanted (and saved for the server releases, and possibly with SP1 or SP2), so they wrote entirely new code/rehashed with older Xp code.
Of course, they're going to save good parts, but I'm more talking about the majority.
You have to give them credit when it's worth - I'd rather see them doing something useful instead of something in the wrong direction completely;as slightly botched as it may be.
Get linux?
Disclaimer: I use my PCs on Slackware/Gentoo and openBSD/Solaris. I have 2 systems running Xp/Vista duel boot. So don't say I'm just a Windows fanboy.
Get a...
MAC.
Problem solved.
Eek.
Well that's not good to hear. I just bought a Inspiron with Vista on it. They wouldn't let me buy it with XP :(
Actually people are not
Actually people are not degrading to XP from Vista.

Um yes they are i bought a new pc that can run vista fine it got a 5.7 on the the test of how good your system is. I ran vista (30-day trial) for about 2 weeks and then went back to the rock solid OS we all love XP. Most of my programs had compatibility problems and Yes to all you smart A**'s i did run them in compatibility mode. I had problems left and right - the most annoying was i would save a file using firefox and then navigate to were i saved it and it wouldn't be there!! Vista is not ready i will wait for the Service Pack
Hasta la vista, Vista!
Couldn't agree more. Vista is a disaster which over the longer term will hurt Microsoft.
The serious problems with Vista are starting to be recognised by consumers and the industry.
Hasta la vista, Vista!
40B what???? non-credible source
I'd love to know how you get this:
"$44.3 billion, roughly one third of Microsoft’s overall revenue."
